My Backgroud

Igrew up and was educated in Australia. I did my undergraduate degree in Physics and Computer Science from Sydney University, and subsequently obtained several graduate degrees in America. During my career I worked in a number of roles -- as an entrapreneur of successful dot-com, as a turn-around consultant for a major American consulting firm, as an IT consultant to companies of all sizes in the New York area, as a research scientist at two research centers, as a professor of Computer Science, and as a software author for a number of publishing companies.

Technology -- Over several decades I have been involved in the development of a wide variety of software systems in a broad spectrum of domains using state-of-the-art technologies. I have participated in the development of support systems for all the major dimensions of business (operations, sales & marketing, HR, product/service development & support, knowledge/information management and training, financial, and corporate). This breadth of experience enables me to have perspective of how to conceptualise, specify, and develop state-of-the-art systems that successfully deliver their functionality under the requirements of compliance, good governance, high security, and continuous change. I stay at the leading edge of technology, having recently applied Semantic web technologies to workplace support and training, and Semantic Grid technologies for creating a global infrastructure for training.

Business -- My experience is also grounded from the management side, having founded and run an E-Learning company as an entrepreneur. I understand the business realities of conceptualising an idea, communicating it to investors, realizing the idea in a product, understanding a marketplace and its customers, creating marketing channels and strategies for the product, efficiently servicing customers, and achieving business success.
